Oral Surgery 1: Making &8220Surgical&8221 Extractions Easier and Faster

Koerner, DDS, MS, Karl R.
Draper, UT
Head, Department of Oral Surgery, Scottsdale Center for Dental Education

Extractions are a mainstay of general practice yet dental school doesn't adequately prepare you to handle unexpected difficulties and complications that inevitably arise. This presentation helps bridge that gap. It covers many techniques and instruments reserved for an oral surgery residency. In this era of more esthetic pontics and immediate implant placement, attention is paid to &8220atraumatic&8221 extractions, not just doing it quickly at the expense of bone. Dr. Karl Koerner also teaches socket bone grafting reviewing what works and what doesn't from his own personal experience over many years. He will also talk about managing potential bleeding problems with patients on aspirin, Coumadin, and Plavix.
